The Government of the Russian Federation has submitted to the State Duma Draft Federal Law No. 1069534-8, providing for a multiple increase in administrative and criminal fines for several economic offenses, including copyright infringements, unlawful receipt of credit, and tax evasion.
Tatyana Nozhkina (Attorney-at-Law)and Andrey Chervyakov (Associate Ermolina & Partners) commented on the draft law in the latest issue of EG-Yurist:
“The scale of the increase in the maximum statutory penalties is particularly concerning—under certain articles, fines are being raised several-fold. In our view, such a sharp escalation of liability may reflect the legislator’s intent to more actively incentivize the business community to minimize violations during commercial activity.”
